Winter is almost upon us.  In the Western Cape we are enjoying the last glorious days of autumn, but in other parts of South Africa, winter has arrived.  The search for warmth in all forms is with us.

When looking at the comfort and warmth levels of your bedroom décor scheme, it might be useful to remember that layering plays an important role in creating a cozy bedroom for winter.  By this I mean layering not only blankets, throws, and pillows on your bed, but also changing the lighting to a warm glow, investing in a soft carpet or bedside mats, and generally embracing the need to cocoon yourself against the chills of winter.

The ultimate luxury of underfloor heating in the bedroom and bathroom cannot be disputed, but there are many less costly alternatives. Bedrooms should be slightly cooler to ensure good sleep, but if you live in a very cold area, you might consider a source of heating for your bedroom, such as a portable heater, heated wall panels or a little stove. 

Cool sleep is excellent sleep hygiene, and this is where the added luxury of a 100% knitted cotton blanket is realised.  Sometimes all you need is an additional layer over your feet or to pull up when the night-time temperature drops.
